The Sidney Daily News is seeking an energetic full-time multimedia reporter who is eager to lead our sports department. Our section has placed in the top three in our division in the Ohio APME competition five of the last six years, including a No. 1 finish in 2018. The position will also help lead general news coverage as an assistant editor. The position will be 50-75% sports coverage and 25-50% general news. Most general news functions will be in the summer, along with assisting with education coverage during the school year. The position will be the No. 2 person in a four-person newsroom and fill in for the editor when needed.

Our sports department mainly focuses on nine high schools in Shelby County. Our teams, particularly those in the Shelby County Athletic League, routinely make deep postseason runs. Many area athletes continue to play collegiately after graduation. Story opportunities are aplenty. The successful candidate will be a strong reporter and writer. Photography and videography skills are a plus. Night and weekend work will be required. The Sidney Daily News is the paper of record for Shelby County with roots stretching back over 100 years. We publish twice weekly (Wednesdays and Saturdays) and are focusing on producing a stronger daily product on our website. Sidney is an affordable city with a population a little over 20,000 located about 45 minutes north of Dayton on Interstate 75. The city is enjoying a downtown revitalization and is home to one of the best city parks around. Numerous recreation opportunities abound in the region, including two state parks located in or near Shelby County. The county is home to Country Concert, one of the largest outdoor concerts in the country each year.
