Cost: Free for ONMA and OAB members, but registration is required.
Society of Professional Journalists digital trainer Mike Reilley returns to Ohio with another insightful Google tools training. In this half-day session, journalists will learn how to use Google’s data and mapping tools to both research stories and verify information. This is a must-attend training made possible by the SPJ at no cost to people who work for papers and stations which are members of the Ohio News Media Association and the Ohio Association of Broadcasters.
While the training is free, registration is limited. So register today.
Schedule and Training Topics
8:30 – 9 a.m.: Registration and set up. All attendees must bring a laptop (not a tablet).
9 a.m. to 10:40 p.m.: Data and Data Visualization: Data scraping with Google Sheets, other scraping tools, Google Dataset Search, Google Public Data Explorer, Google MyMaps and Google Flourish.
10:50 a.m. to noon: Google Earth tools and verification, Google Earth Pro for graphics and videos, Google Earth Timelapse, Google Earth measure tool (distances and square footage).
